Council of Lutheran Churches

How We Support Our Member Churches
CLC Member Churches Chairpersons Gathering
This special gathering is intended to bring together the chairpersons of the Council of Lutheran Churches (CLC) Member Churches. The aim is to connect, share insights, and strengthen collaboration across our churches as we continue to serve in unity and mutual support.

This meeting offers a valuable opportunity for leadership to engage in open dialogue, explore shared challenges, and foster a stronger sense of community across our networks.
CLC Clergy Breakfast: Serving Together in Faith, Unity, and Witness

Rooted in shared witness to God’s grace as revealed through Jesus Christ, we exist to support our churches and pastors in their mission and ministry—through collaboration, community, and compassion.

Our Story
Founded in 1948, the CLC began as a response to the needs of Lutheran refugee clergy following World War II. What started as a support network has grown into a dynamic fellowship of churches working together to navigate the challenges and opportunities of ministry in the UK today.
We believe that gathering matters. When pastors and leaders come together across traditions and backgrounds, we learn from each other, bridge differences, align around common purpose, and strengthen our shared call to serve.
Why We Gather
CLC Pastor’s gatherings are about more than fellowship. They offer space for:
  • Shared reflection and learning
  • Deep conversations on key issues affecting our communities
  • Collaborative planning for impactful ministry

Our upcoming session will focus on vital topics including:
  • Social justice and advocacy
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Community outreach and partnership
With an emphasis on how we, as Lutheran communities, can come together, learn together, and act together, these gatherings serve as a catalyst for pastoral wellness, renewed ministry and public witness.
CLC Clergy Retreat: Rest. Reflect. Reconnect.
This retreat is a dedicated time for Lutheran pastors, deacons and church leaders across Great Britain to step away from their daily responsibilities and reconnect with God, one another, and themselves.

Rooted in our shared Lutheran tradition and grounded in community, the gathering offers space for rest, renewal, and reflection—a time to nourish the spirit, explore challenges in ministry, and be reminded that we are never alone in our calling.

Who Can Join?
The CLC Clergy Retreat is open to pastors, deacons, and ministry leaders serving within our member churches.
Why Attend?
In a demanding ministry landscape, the need for pastoral self-care and peer support is more important than ever. The retreat provides:
  • Spiritual nourishment through worship, prayer, and theological reflection
  • Meaningful conversation around the realities of ministry in today’s world
  • Restorative time in a peaceful setting, away from the demands of parish life
  • Fellowship and encouragement from those who walk a similar path

Whether you are newly ordained or a seasoned minister, this retreat is an opportunity to pause, be refreshed, and return to your context re-energized.

Upcoming Retreat

Dates: 6th -7th of February 2026

In addition to the above, the CLC provides opportunities for Lutherans in Britain to learn more about their history, theology and church life. This is achieved by organising study days, lectures and other events, which are advertised among affiliated churches.

The Council also helps to arrange safeguarding trainings for member churches and DBS checks for those who are working with people, to ensure a safe environment for all.
