Trip to Wittenberg and other places of the Reformation

October 10 - October 14

From 10th-14th October, CLC is organising a trip to Wittenberg and the surrounding historic sites of the Reformation under the guidance of the local tour operator Christian Tours Europe.

The trip will include:

Day 1, Thursday, October 10, 2024: Arrive in Berlin

Arrive in Berlin where you will be met and greeted at the airport, after you exit customs, by your bus driver and tour director. After everything is settled, transfer to the city center for a guided tour of Berlin by bus with several stops. After some free time, head to Wittenberg. Check in at Colleg Wittenberg for the next four nights. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2, Friday, October 11, 2024: Wittenberg

In the morning meet your local guide for the city tour and discover the city where Martin Luther once lived and taught. On your tour in the “Footsteps of Martin Luther” you visit places which were important in his life, like the Town Church, the Market square, the Town hall and the Castle Church, where Luther posted his “95 thesis”. In the afternoon continue with your city tour and visit the Lutherhouse museum (special exhibition, as the main house is under renovations) and Melanchthonhouse museum. Some free time to explore Wittenberg on your own, before you gather for dinner, followed by a meeting with a representative of the LWF Wittenberg Center.

Day 3, Saturday, October 12: Eisenach and Erfurt

Today enjoy a scenic ride for a day trip to Eisenach, where you will tour the Wartburg Castle, where Luther disguised himself as a squire named “Junker Jörg” and hid away for ten months while he was on the run from imperial authorities. Here Luther created one of his most important works—the translation of the New Testament into German. On your private guided tour of the castle, you will also see the room where Luther lived and worked on his translation. Continue to Erfurt. A city tour follows. We will see the University district, where Luther studied, and visit the Augustinian Monastery. Return to Wittenberg, late arrival.

Day 4, Sunday, October 13: Eisleben and Leipzig

First on your list this morning is Eisleben. A local guide is waiting for you to show you Eisleben: Luther’s birth and death occurred here, his Bethlehem and Jerusalem. His home is typical of the Middle Ages. An exhibition interprets the spiritual environment of Luther’s childhood. You can further understand the foundation of Luther’s faith when you visit the Church of St. Peter and Paul, where Luther was baptized. Our tour includes a stop at St. Andrews, where Luther gave his last four sermons. Continue to Leipzig. In May 1989, the people of Leipzig first organized the demonstrations that brought hundreds of thousands into the streets for the “Peaceful Revolution”. You will visit their rendezvous point at the Gothic St. Nicholas Church, built in 1165. Return to Wittenberg.

Day 5, Monday, October 14: Goodbye

It is time to say Good Bye. Transfer to Berlin airport for your homebound flight.
